What’s New at Grand Tourmalet

2026-2027 Season

Welcome to the foot of the Pic du Midi, where the mountains reveal their full grandeur. Between lively La Mongie and authentic Barèges, Grand Tourmalet unfolds its XXL landscapes and contrasting atmospheres for a panoramic experience.

Skiing at Grand Tourmalet reaches a historic milestone with the brand-new Tournaboup gondola, designed to make the Barèges sector easier to discover in both summer and winter.

With a ski front now raised to 1,800 metres, a modernised beginners’ area and gourmet night-time outings, discover all the improvements to the largest ski area in the French Pyrenees.

Here, the mountains are lived to the full all year round, and our ski patrollers can’t wait to see you there!

So, ready to explore the new features making Grand Tourmalet even more spectacular this season?

Winter Mountain Panorama at Grand Tourmalet

The major change this season is the opening of the 10-seater Tournaboup gondola, built by the manufacturer POMA.

It replaces the old fixed-grip 4-seater chairlift and is at the heart of Grand Tourmalet’s four-season strategy. Skiers, snowshoers, mountain bikers and hikers all enjoy optimum comfort on board.

A faster lift with no waiting

  • 5-minute ride: the journey time has been cut by more than half.
  • 2,400 people per hour: this capacity eliminates queues at peak times.
  • 1.1 km route: the gondola links the Tournaboup car park to the top of Laquette, at an altitude of 1,800 m.

  • Covered Laquette magic carpet : located at 1,800 m, the conveyor lift is now covered to shelter skiers from the wind. It is open every day and gives access to 2 secure beginners’ slopes.
  • Enhanced Family Zone : the sledging areas and zones reserved for young skiers benefit from an upgraded snowmaking network.

Laquette reopens fully renovated. With 100% mountain-style décor, a redesigned layout and a warm atmosphere, the restaurant has been created to become a must-visit on the Barèges side.

Its panoramic terrace faces the beginners’ area. Children discover skiing just opposite while their parents enjoy traditional dishes, prepared with HaPy Saveurs produce by the team of Lourdes-born chef Bertrand Aragnouet.

Bonus : during the school holidays, live music entertains guests during the day!

Beyond daytime skiing, the ski area offers new immersive night-time experiences to enjoy the mountains in a different way.

Gourmet break by snowcat at the Col du Tourmalet

During the February holidays, hop aboard for a 1 hr 30 snowcat excursion up to the Col du Tourmalet. At the top, enjoy a 360° panoramic view while tasting a platter of local produce: Porc Noir de Bigorre PDO and Pyrenean tomme cheeses.

Festive evenings at La Laquette restaurant

Outside the school holidays, La Laquette restaurant hosts unique evenings. Enjoy a mountain dinner with live music, right in the heart of the ski area.

Good news for No Souci Pyrénées Card subscribers and Premium or Unlimited Season Pass holders: this season, a fast-track lane is in place on the ski area’s flagship chairlifts (Tourmalet, Panoramic, Tournaboup, Béarnais, Caoubère, Pourteilh, Espade and Sapins). Less waiting, more runs on the largest ski area in the French Pyrenees: you’re on the slopes while everyone else is queuing. Pretty classy, right ?
